Celebrate the Season with Your Community

Kenosha Downtown Holiday Event 2013

It's almost time!

It’s almost time!

At Palmen Motors, we’re looking forward to the holiday season as much as anybody. Sure, it’ll be cold, but that’s what parkas and hot chocolate are for. Sure, your car might act up in the winter, but that’s what our service department is for! The important thing about the season is getting together – with family, of course, but also with members of the community. This year’s Lightin’ Up Downtown Kenosha & Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is an opportunity to do just that.

Lightin’ Up Downtown Kenosha is an evening of fun that gives you a chance to experience downtown businesses in a fun, festive environment. It’s held on the evening of  November 29th 2013 – aka “Black Friday,” partially to give people a more fun, light-hearted way to get out of the house the day after Thanksgiving as opposed to… well, you know what else is out there. What can you expect from Lightin’ Up Downtown Kenosha? Let us give you a rundown:

4:00pm – Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Civil War Museum (5400 First Ave). Mayor Keith Bosman leads the program, along with music by Kal Begendahl. Two children (chosen by drawing) will help Santa and the mayor light the city’s official Christmas tree to kick off the evening.

5:00pm to 9:00pm – Free Streetcar Rides! When’s the last time you took a ride on Kenosha’s electric streetcar ride? These historic, pollution-free transit vehicles are authentic 1951 President’s Conference Committee cars that have been part of our downtown since June of 2000, and on the evening of Lightin’ Up Downtown Kenosha, they’re totally free to ride!

But where to ride? Glad you asked!

5:00pm to 8:00pm – Visit with Santa. Take the free ride down to 5700 6th Avenue for a FREE visit with Santa, and take home photo prints of the experience for the price of a small donation to the Kenosha Art Association.

After you’re done visiting Santa, don’t stop there because there’s a lot more fun to be had. Over forty downtown businesses will be participating in the event, offering specials, sales, and lots of holiday cheer! Shop, sip, eat, hear music, and walk around to enjoy all of the decorations and lights! Expect a super-festive atmosphere as businesses compete for your vote in the new-this-year Downtown Business Decorating Contest.

Whether you’re hitting the big sales early in the day or staying in, we hope you’ll make it out on the evening of Black Friday to celebrate the season!

Ho, ho, ho!
