2014 Jeep Cherokee vs 2014 Ford Escape
If you’re looking at getting a crossover that’s capable, versatile, and affordable, there’s an increasingly great selection for you out there. With more and more families opting for something that’s got that extra space and power over the typical sedan, the market has really blown up for great, affordable family crossovers. Today we’re comparing one model that we sell here, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, with a popular competitor, the Ford Escape. We’re comparing the two models at their base trim level. For the Cherokee, that’s the Sport model with front-wheel drive, and in the Escape the base model is the S, also with front-wheel drive. Both have higher trim levels available and 4×4 capability is offered on both models as well.

You’ll notice on the chart that in some areas, the two crossovers are pretty well matched up. The MSRP is nearly identical, and the gas mileage is exactly the same for both city and highway driving. So where do they start to differ? One major distinction for the Cherokee is it offers noticeably more horsepower, which also accounts in part for its ability to haul a bit more than the Escape. So if you think you’ll want to do any trailering, or have the option to do so, that might be a factor you’ll want to consider.
As for comfort and convenience features on these base models (not included in the chart), the two are fairly similar. The Cherokee includes heated driver and passenger seats and ParkSense parking assist, while those options aren’t standard on the Escape.
