2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Upgraded Engine Power and Performance Features
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel comes equipped with the all-new, third-generation 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine.
The third-generation 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine produces up to 260 horsepower.
This is an 8% increase in horsepower over the previous EcoDiesel generation which produced 240 horsepower.
The third-generation 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine produces up to 480 lb-ft of torque.
This is a 14% increase in torque over the previous EcoDiesel generation which produced 420 lb-ft of torque.
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, paired with the all-new 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine, tows up to 12,560 lbs.
This is over a 35% increase in towing capacity over the previous EcoDiesel generation which could tow up to 9,290 lbs.
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, paired with the all-new 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine, has a payload of 2,300 lbs.
This is over a 40% increase in payload capacity over the previous EcoDiesel generation which could carry up to 1,640 lbs.

Changes and upgrades to mechanical processes to improve performance, efficiency, fuel economy, and responsiveness include:
- Compression ratio optimized from 16:5:1 to 16:0:1
- Dual vacuum pump system uses new electric and mechanical low-friction pump
- Exhaust gas recirculation system updated to a dual loop system
- New-generation water-cooled turbocharger with variable geometry turbine
- Noise, Vibration, Harshness levels reduced with redesigned piston pin and lightweight materials
- Redesigned cylinder head intake ports
- Redesigned high-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles
- Redesigned lightweight aluminum alloy pistons
