The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is an annual study that examines the problems of new model year vehicle owners during their first 90 days of ownership. The initial quality score is determined by the number of problems experienced by every 100 vehicles. Therefore, a lower score reflects a higher quality of vehicle, in theory. This year, the combined brands of FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), with Dodge and Ram as particular standouts, ranked better than the industry average for the first time in the history of the study.

While not as impressive as its compatriots, the Jeep brand made a significant showing. For the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Jeep jumped six spots from #17 to #11, achieving its best-ever ranking in the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

For the 2019 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, the Ram brand ranked #21.
For the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, the Ram brand rose all the way to #3, bolstered heavily by positive reception of the redesigned Ram 1500 light-duty pickup truck.
