Drive Safely this Holiday Season!

Holiday Driving Safety Tips 2021

This time of year is full of good things: food, drink, friends, family, and all sorts of holiday cheer. Unfortunately, the weather can cause travel problems on the road, and too much holiday cheer can mean unsafe driving and drivers. So how do you best navigate holiday driving?

5 Tips on How to Drive Safely During the Holidays

  1. No distracted driving. It can be difficult to put everything aside while driving (especially your cell phone), however, distracted driving can be just as deadly as driving while impaired. If you must use your cell phone, restrict usage to using it for navigation purposes.
  2. Keep to the speed limit. The rules of the road are there for a reason – to keep us as safe as possible. Speed limits help ensure that there’s room to stop should something go wrong. If the road conditions are wet or icy, it’s important to bring your speed down below the posted limit.
  3. Give your car a checkup and service. Take care of your car, and your car will take care of you Brakes, fluids, tires, wipers, oil – factor these and other items into your regular routine so you are safe for yourself, your family, and other drivers.
  4. Don’t drink and drive! This should go without saying, but every year there are thousands of accidents that likely would not have happened due to impaired driving. You owe it to your family and community to stay safe.
  5. Drive defensively. People aren’t always at their most polite, ironically, during the festive season. To make sure that you stay safe, keep an eye out for what other people are doing.
