If you’ve been waiting for a diesel engine in your light-duty pickup, you probably know by now that it’s finally going to happen thanks to the folks at Ram. While we’ve patiently waited for the option to arrive, we’ve had plenty of time to think about some of the benefits this choice will bring us. So, to the left here you’ll see the EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine. It’s the only light-duty diesel engine you’ll find, and it’s emissions-compliant in all 50 states due to its diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter, and selective catalyst reduction. Now whether that really means something to you or you just want to use it to shush people who want to give you a hard time is neither here nor there. If it’s the latter, though, you can also tell ’em that the EcoDiesel’s Biodiesel capability is the cleanest light duty engine available.
And here’s some more good news: the Ecodiesel V6 offers more torque than even the standard V8 model, and the gas mileage is expected to seriously trump the current offerings as well.

What models will the EcoDiesel engine be available on? You’ll find it on the Tradesman, SLT, Outdoorsman, Big Horn, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn. So, most of the trim levels you might be interested probably have this EcoDiesel option. It will cost a bit more money upfront than the V8, but you’ve got to account for fuel savings over the long term as well. These trucks are built to last and diesel is an increasingly in-demand fuel type – you’re even starting to see it in cars and SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It’s an investment you can take pride in, and will thank yourself for down the road.
