Safe Outdoor Activities During Stay-at-Home Orders

Many states have issued stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic to reduce the spread of the virus. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t leave your house or apartment, or that you have to be stuck inside the entire time. Here’s how you can enjoy the outdoors and get some fresh air and exercise while practicing safe social distancing and other CDC guidelines.

Campgrounds and Hiking Trails in Kenosha, WI

Walking and Running

Walking and running are the most basic but rewarding activities that can be enjoyed outside during a stay-at-home order. Whether around the block, in nature, or along a trail, find a spot to take a walk and breathe in the fresh air.

Additionally, this allows for dog and pet-walking, although most dog parks have been closed.

Biking, Skating, and Scooters

In addition to walking and running, most activities that function in the same manner of solitary exercise are allowed. That includes biking, skating, roller blades, scooters, and more.

Gardening and Yard Work

Not much for exercise but still don’t want to be stuck inside? Many people are using their time to get gardening, housework, and/or yard work done in the meantime. Tend to your garden, plant a tree, build a firepit, retile your roof, repaint your house, and more!

State Parks and Forests – Camping and Hiking

Before you head to a park, make sure it’s open.

Many state parks were originally open during the beginning of stay-at-home orders and restrictions. However, some states have since closed down their parks because residents were refusing to follow social distancing and CDC guidelines while visiting, as well as excessively littering.

In relation, most campgrounds are shut down to prevent habitation of large groups. However, hiking is an acceptable activity listed alongside walking and running. Most hiking trails are still open and offer good exercise and sight-seeing in nature.

Beaches, Boating, and Fishing

It varies on a state-by-state basis, but most beaches are closed to prevent the gathering of large groups. However, boating on lakes and rivers for the purpose of fishing is still acceptable in places where it was previously allowed before stay-at-home orders.
