Truck shoppers interested in the latest capability and convenience advances are going to enjoy the 2019 model year. Several manufacturers are pulling out all the stops when it comes to redesigning their full-size, light-duty trucks. In this 2019 Ram 1500 vs 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 comparison, we are looking at two bold and attractive pickups that are getting significant updates for the new model year.
The 2019 Ram 1500 (which is already available in our new vehicle inventory) has seen enhancements throughout its design. While last year’s 3.6-liter V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 will be returning early in the year, these engines will be available soon with the eTorque light hybridization system, which should help drivers save money when refueling and might also offer a boost in torque. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500, which has a late 2018 release date, will also be seeing some engine enhancements on two V-8 engine. Outside of the displacement of these engines, we don’t know much yet about the capability that they will offer.

While the powertrain is the heart of any truck, it is not the only factor that goes into a high-value pickup. Both models in this 2019 Ram 1500 vs 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 comparison have also received alluring new technology with their updates. Both now offer attractive driver assistance features (like automatic emergency braking, lane change assistance and a 360-view camera display) in upper trim levels, and have other advantages. One feature that we find particularly impressive is the all-new 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen that will be available in Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited models of the 2019 Ram 1500. This display is currently the largest screen available in any pickup, and offers plenty of communication and entertainment options. We believe that the largest display available on the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 will continue being an eight-inch touchscreen with the GMC Infotainment System.
Some significant tailgate changes are coming on the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 that will give this truck more versatility, but for in-bed storage advantages we still love the RamBox Cargo Management System, which creates a convenient and secure in-bed storage area that doesn’t get in the way of other bed cargo.
